The adjudicators were from various organisations such as Environmental Management Association (EMA), District Adminstration’s office, District’s Medical Office, Lowveld Business Community (LOBDA) and the hosts UCHIRRA.
Ward 3 was ranked first after a tour by the judges on the bases of a number of factors which included use of devolution funds, ward accessibility, service delivery, rate paying, performance of councilors, resource mobilisation among other things.
It is fair enough to give credit to the residents of ward 3 and their leadership for coming first considering it is the oldest ward in town comprising of a bus terminus, graced with a community centre, Chitsanga Hall, with a relaxation facility of the Tshovani Stadium and a big after-time space in the famous Chigarapasi Beerhall.
The 1st prize was US$180-00, and the second was US$120-00 while the third walked away with US$100-00.
The advocate of the UCHIRRA, Mr Bernard Dachi commented on the awards saying the tour was to appreciate the efforts put by the residents and councilors, while also uncovering problematic areas in town.
“We saw it necessary to organise this program where we appreciate the work that has been done by the residents and at the same time highlight the problematic areas such as illegal dumpsites and other things.” said Dachi.
Ropafadzo Makumire, the ward 3 councilor, who is also serving as the town’s Vice Chairperson was quick to give the credit to the residents for maintaining hygiene, paying rates and encouraged them to continue cooperating.
“I give all the credit to the residents of my ward who are maintaining their environment and paying their rates while also encouraging them to continue and do more in terms of improving their area.” said Makumire.
Ward 7 came second, followed by the Ward 4, while a joint fourth was held by the Town Chairperson’s ward 1 and ward 2, ward 8 came last.
