The man who is suspected of the murder of Lawava Salani Mpapa near the old cemetery in Chiredzi has been put behind bars today (Friday), barely six days after the alleged crime.

Willard Simango awaits trial tomorrow for the suspected murder of a security guard, Lawava Salani and axing another villager near Checheche on Wednesday.
The Masvingo provincial spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa confirmed the development but could not provide more details as he was out of office by the time of publication.
“Yes I can confirm that the suspect of the Salani murder has been caught but I will give you full details when I get back to the office.” Dehwa said.
Privy sources spoke to this publication on condition of anonymity, said the suspect was caught by the Mozambican Police after a campaign launched by the ZRP.
It is alleged that he struck a villager with an axe on Wednesday near Checheche and fled away, although the person sustained critical injuries.
“The suspect was caught by the Mozambican Police and handed over to the ZRP Chiredzi after a campaign” said the source.
“He had also struck someone else near Checheche with an axe, although the other person was critically injured and rushed to the hospital.”
The grieving son of the late, Special Salani said he was on his way to the Police station as he had received the report that the suspect, Willard Simango, had just been caught near Chipinge.
“I am still on my way to the Police station but I have received the report that the suspect Willard Simango has been caught near Chipinge, although I don’t know him personally.” said Salani.
The community of Chiredzi is still coming to terms with the gruesome murder of Lawava Salani which took place last Saturday, he had his head chopped off and torso burnt.
