Shocking and surprising, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority is concealing information regarding to two tankers that were allegedly intercepted while smuggling fuel from South Africa to Chiredzi.
For the past three weeks, the tankers, registration numbers, HLV 5823 FS (foreign number plates) and ABJ 9372, are parked at the Zimra offices in Chiredzi, after they were intercepted on their way from South Africa.
It is alleged that the tankers were destined for Inotrade Service station in Chiredzi, owned by Trinity Mutsetse.
Mutsetse, bullied this reporter during the process of establishing the the correct facts on the matter, and later referred all the questions to Zimra.
The tax collector’s spokesperson Francis Chimanda said the information regarding the alleged fuel smuggling can not be made public for reasons he did not disclose.
Zimra is a public entity, whose information, particularly where there is suspicion of graft can not be censored.
There is rampant looting and underhand deals at almost all border posts and Zimra offices, where several personnel, including high ranking officials, where fired for corruption.
Recently, a number of employees were dismissed at Beit Bridge border post, on allegations of corruption and graft.
Concealing information on the alleged smuggling of fuel in Chiredzi, makes the whole deal stink.
“The information you are asking can not be given to the media because it is private”, Chimanda said.
