Chiredzi- 30 youths from Samba Range farm in Chiredzi North constituency were arrested and appeared before Chiredzi magistrate Court on Monday after resisting a High Court Eviction Order.
By COURT REPORTER
Last week, the rogue villagers toting to 880 people converged at the farm before going on a rampage while singing revolutionary songs. They then pelted stones and logs at an Airforce of Zimbabwe truck that had gone to collect electricity poles for Masimbaevanhu clinic which is being built by the army.
Six occupants who were in the truck were also assaulted.
The group went on to destroy Sika lodge owned by David Saunyama. The lodge is situated at the same farm.
Moses Chingwena, the owner of the farm, bought it under the Willing buyer, willing seller scheme from DM Bantley and Sons in 2002.
In 2003, about 300 families forced themselves into the private property. Chingwena sought reprieve from the Court and was granted an eviction order in 2008 but the villagers refused to vacate.
This year, Chingwena revisited the case and another Court Order for eviction was granted in his favour. Again the villagers are resisting the Court Order.
They have been denied bail and they will be back in court on 27 July.
